Changes to NJ Statutory Disability and Family Leave Insurance

On February 19, 2019, New Jersey Bill A3975 was signed into law by Governor Murphy. This bill revises the laws concerning Family Leave (FLI) and Temporary Disability Benefits (TDB) including, pregnancy temporary disability leave, family temporary disability leave, and domestic or sexual violence safety leave.

Attached is a one-page overview of the important changes that will occur in 2020, and the potential impact that employers should be considering. Unfortunately, the increase in the taxable wage base and the improvement in the benefits will mean a significant increase in your cost and the employee contributions.  

The good news is the immediate change in 2019 - you will no longer be required to secure employee signatures to move from the State program to a private plan with an insurance carrier.

If your benefits are still administered by the State, this is a great opportunity to move the program to an insurance carrier effective April 1st and save 20% or more on your annual cost – and with better claims and overall service for the HR Department and your employees.
